Jonathan Schwartz of Sun Microsystems details his vision for Sun
Not many CEOs blog as regularly and as insightfully as Jonathan Schwartz of Sun (in my opinion). Do take a look at his recent blogposts. I like to hear your reactions and responses..
When I hear about a CEO blogging, I have mixed feelings. I'll ignore the positives that we've discussed often regarding improving company transparency and better engaging with your customers, etc.
Blurring the lines between an employee's thoughts and the company's public face makes me feel a little uneasy.
As a reader, is the CEO blog going to just be selling the company, their strategic objectives, and justifying the decision he/she has made? Um, great. I'll read the 10K for that.
If he's going to be brutally honest, is that what is good for the company? Isn't that what PR department is for? To massage the info while still being accurate and truthful.
If he's going to act like a real human with human instincts for self-serving survival, is that good for the company?
For instance, we'll he discuss Sun flubbing the IBM deal? If he were being a real person behind the blog other than a corporate PR vehicle, he'd definitely discuss it.

That would be a great blog if it wasn't watered down.
