CEO Memo - Healthrax, Inc.

Healthtrax is a rehabilitation, wellness and fitness company that serves individuals in more than a dozen fitness centers as well as on-site at partner companies. At their fitness centers, free trainer assistance is available for all members to help them achieve their goals. In their on-site work, Healthtrax works with companies to evaluate and educate their employees and introduce them to the benefits of healthy living with the support of Healthtrax. I will be focusing on this side of the business. The major issues within this branch of Healthrax relate to infrastructure problems, mainly with productivity, database and networking applications and services to run their on-site business in an efficient, reliable and low cost manner.

  1. Shaun, have you thought about utilizing IT to assist people in charting their progress and managing their workouts? I see people with notebooks at the gym writing down exactly what they did so they can keep track of their workout. I also see people doing this in the locker-room post workout. As a gym go-er who wants to record my workout but doesn't want to bring a notebook into the gym, it would be great if each machine (perhaps you can do this for free weights too) had a bar-code reader where each person could swipe their gym ID and exactly what the person did on each machine was uploaded to a web site where the gym go-er could check it post-workout. The machines could record # of reps and weight used, time used, etc. I think this would help people keep track of exactly what they did at the gym and allow people to easily chart their progress. I think there's a lot of potential in this area. There's also the potential for the gym to do data mining and sell additional services through the web site component of this.
